Margaret River Pro Resumes

Perth, April 25: Competition has officially resumed at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro after five consecutive lay days, with organisers calling the event ON as improved conditions arrived at Main Break.
Following a week of poor surf driven by back-to-back weather fronts, a strong cold front has now cleared the coast, allowing the men’s Quarterfinals to begin at 8:05 a.m. AWST. The women’s Quarterfinals will follow, with both Semifinals and Finals on standby as officials assess conditions throughout the day.
Main Break is currently in the four-to-six-foot range, with cleaner conditions than previous days, although some surface bump remains due to lingering onshore winds. There is a possibility the competition could run through to completion today, but organisers will make a further call later this morning depending on how conditions evolve.
The opening men’s Quarterfinal sees Samuel Pupo take on Australia’s Joel Vaughan, while Crosby Colapinto faces three-time world champion Gabriel Medina in Heat 2. Other matchups include Yago Dora against George Pittar, and Italo Ferreira versus Ethan Ewing.
In the women’s draw, current world No. 1 Gabriela Bryan meets Sawyer Lindblad in the opening heat. An all-American clash between Caroline Marks and Lakey Peterson follows, before Australia’s Molly Picklum takes on Luana Silva. The final Quarterfinal features Caitlin Simmers against four-time event winner Carissa Moore.
With only the final rounds remaining, organisers are aiming to crown winners either later today or tomorrow, depending on weather conditions.
The event, running from April 16 to 26, is being broadcast live on the World Surf League website and app.
