Surf Paused At Margaret River

Perth, April 24: Competition has been called off for the fifth consecutive day at the Western Australia Margaret River Pro due to poor conditions at Main Break.
Onshore winds driven by back-to-back weather fronts have created unfavourable surf along Western Australia’s South West coast, forcing organisers to delay action at Stop No. 2 of the World Surf League Championship Tour.
A Finals Day Yellow Alert has now been issued, signalling a likely start to the final rounds within the next 24 hours. The next call is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at 7:15 a.m. AWST, with a possible start at 7:35 a.m.
Forecasts indicate improving conditions over the weekend, with lighter and more favourable winds expected.
With only 14 heats remaining, organisers are aiming to resume competition soon and crown event winners in the coming days.

When action returns, the Quarterfinals will be contested across both the men’s and women’s draws. Current World No. 1 Gabriela Bryan will face Sawyer Lindblad in the opening women’s heat, as she chases a third consecutive win at Margaret River.
An all-American clash will follow, with Caroline Marks taking on Lakey Peterson, while Australia’s Molly Picklum meets Brazil’s Luana Silva. The final women’s quarterfinal will see Caitlin Simmers go up against Carissa Moore.
In the men’s draw, Brazil’s Samuel Pupo will take on Australia’s Joel Vaughan, while Crosby Colapinto faces Gabriel Medina. Another Brazil-Australia matchup will see Yago Dora compete against George Pittar.
The final men’s quarterfinal features former world champion Italo Ferreira against Australia’s Ethan Ewing, who is aiming to bounce back after an early exit at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach earlier this month.
The event, running from April 16 to 26, will be broadcast live on the World Surf League website and app, with organisers hopeful that improved conditions will allow the competition to resume imminently.
