Shah Alam, June 12: Canon Marketing Malaysia announced the launch of the RF-S3.9mm f/3.5 STM Dual Fisheye, a new lens designed to enhance virtual reality (VR) capabilities for users.
This compact, lightweight, and autofocus-capable lens is built for APS-C cameras and currently supports the EOS R7, significantly streamlining the workflow for high-resolution 3D VR photos and videos.

The RF-S3.9mm f/3.5 STM Dual Fisheye captures two images with parallax simultaneously on a single image sensor, resulting in a 144° angle of view.
These images can be converted into 180° 3D VR movies using the EOS VR Utility software or the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro, making high-quality VR content creation more accessible and affordable.
As Canon’s first dual fisheye lens to support autofocusing, it features a dual-lens STM mechanism that drives both lenses in unison, allowing for swift and precise AF.
Users can make fine adjustments with the electronic focusing/control ring and a focus difference adjustment mode switch.
The EOS Utility or Camera Connect apps can also control the AF frame location, enhancing ease of operation from unique angles.
The lens features anti-reflective ASC (Air Sphere Coating) for minimal ghosting and flaring, ensuring excellent image quality even in backlit conditions.
On the EOS R7, it achieves high pixel density during 4K recording, providing high-definition images from corner to corner.
Weighing approximately 290g and slightly lighter than its predecessor, the RF5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye, the new lens is compact and portable.
It also comes with a rear filter holder for gelatin filters and 30.5mm screw-in filters, further enhancing its versatility.
