TeamViewer Embraces AR Innovation

Bern, Jan 26: TeamViewer, a renowned leader in remote IT support, has recently announced a pivotal shift towards augmented reality (AR) through a strategic partnership with AR startup Almer. This development follows closely behind Apple’s foray into the AR space with their upcoming Vision Pro headset.
Almer’s cutting-edge Arc headset revolutionizes collaboration by allowing remote individuals to virtually coexist and interact with the wearer’s environment.
Almer’s latest innovation, the Arc 2 headset, boasts impressive features like a 25MP camera, beamforming microphones, built-in speakers, and a holographic see-through screen offering 8 hours of battery life. Weighing only 138 grams, the Arc 2 is significantly lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro and is designed for dynamic, mission-critical tasks, in contrast to the Vision Pro’s focus on static indoor environments.
This collaboration positions TeamViewer to delve into new industrial sectors, while Almer gains the opportunity to scale its AR technology.
Mei Dent, Chief Product & Technology Officer at TeamViewer, emphasized the potential impact of this partnership:
“With 80 per cent of the global workforce engaged in frontline tasks, there’s a vast untapped potential for digital transformation in this sector. Our collaboration with Almer will empower these workers with digital tools, integrating them with their companies’ backend systems and accelerating digitalization processes.”
Almer, founded in 2021 by Sebastian Beetschen and Timon Binder, is the brainchild of a Microsoft Research alum and a former jet fighter pilot. Their combined expertise led to the development of the Almer Arc, a device inspired by jet fighter visors.
Sebastian Beetschen, CEO and co-founder of Almer, described the headset: “The Almer Arc, akin to a jet fighter visor, is a user-friendly AR headset. It enables frontline workers to connect with experts remotely for real-time assistance, enhancing problem-solving efficiency.”
Currently, Almer serves 21 clients, including a major Swiss defense contractor and several international machine manufacturers. The company has raised $7.6 million from strategic investors and is composed of experts from prestigious Swiss technology institutes.
On the Arc 2 launch, Sebastian Beetschen remarked: “The Arc 2 is highly adaptable, with a 25MP wide-angle camera that offers unparalleled detail and environmental understanding, pushing the boundaries of human capabilities.”
The AR market is expected to skyrocket from $62.75 billion in 2023 to $1.1 trillion by 2030. Almer initially targets the Swiss industry, planning to expand into the DACH region and eventually worldwide.
Beetschen added, “The cost-saving potential in DACH’s tooling-machine manufacturing sector alone is immense, highlighting the significant opportunity AR technology presents.”
