The national carrier will add 124 extra flights across its domestic and select international routes from its Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KUL) hub between February and March 2024.
During the festive Chinese New Year period, Malaysia Airlines will also upgrade 12 aircraft on routes to and from Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Kuching (KCH), and Penang (PEN), utilizing its Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 models to accommodate the increased passenger volume.
In a parallel development, Firefly, Malaysia Airlines’ sister airline, has marked a new achievement with its first international flight to Tawau, a district on Sabah’s east coast.
The inaugural charter flight from Nanjing, China, landed in Tawau on 23 January 2024 with 157 passengers.
Firefly will operate these chartered flights thrice weekly, with arrivals in Tawau every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, offering a total capacity of 540 seats per week through March 2024.|

These additional flights during the Chinese New Year and school holidays reflect our commitment to providing convenient travel options and enhancing the overall experience for our passengers.”
He also emphasized the airline’s commitment to national pride and growth, aligning with the goals of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), and positioning KUL as a hub for Asia and beyond.
