Kuala Lumpur, Jan 10: In a significant legal development, Magma Group Berhad has announced a positive turn in its ongoing legal battles.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has allowed Public Bank Berhad to withdraw its lawsuit against Magma’s subsidiary, Astaka Mekar Sdn Bhd, along with other defendants.
This withdrawal, made without any order as to costs, marks a pivotal moment for Magma Group, clearing the path for the company to steer its focus towards new business opportunities.
Datuk Sri Thomas Liang Chee Fong, the Managing Director of Magma Group, expressed optimism about the future, emphasizing the company’s dedication to sustainable growth.
The legal resolution has seemingly boosted investor confidence, with Magma’s share price standing at RM0.270 as of January 10, 2024, and the company’s market capitalization reaching RM255.2 million.
The case, which has been a focal point of concern for shareholders, originated from a lawsuit filed by Public Bank Berhad on June 14, 2023.
The suit involved Impiana Hotels Berhad and its subsidiaries, including Astaka Mekar Sdn Bhd, Data Sepadu Sdn Bhd, and Impiana Sdn Bhd, along with Datuk Seri Ismail @ Farouk Abdullah.
The legal action was based on the defendants’ failure to settle outstanding sums under various loan facilities.
Throughout last year, the case saw multiple developments, including directives for the filing of defenses and replies by the concerned parties, and several case management sessions.
A key milestone was reached on Nov 15, when Impiana Hotels Berhad announced that Astaka Mekar Sdn Bhd had regularized payment of its facility with Public Bank.
With the latest court decision allowing Public Bank Berhad to withdraw its suit, Magma Group Berhad appears to be on a path to recovery and growth.
This new direction not only alleviates the legal burdens on the company but also opens avenues for exploring and investing in new business ventures.
The market’s response to this development will be closely watched by investors and industry analysts alike.
