Sydney, Jan 10: Julien’s Auctions has announced a landmark auction event featuring items from cultural icons Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner. Titled ‘ICONS: PLAYBOY, HUGH HEFNER, AND MARILYN MONROE’, the auction is set to take place from March 28 to 30 in Los Angeles and will be open for global online bidding.
Prior to the auction, exclusive exhibitions will be held in Asia, showcasing highlights from the collection. The first exhibition is scheduled at the Fringe Club in Hong Kong from January 27 to February 1, followed by a showcase at the K11 Art Mall in Shanghai from March 6 to 17.
These exhibitions are free and open to the public, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of Monroe and Hefner.
This collection, comprising over 1,000 artifacts, includes items from the early life of Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner and personal belongings of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.
The auction features pieces such as Andy Warhol’s original “Playboy Bunny” silkscreen, LeRoy Neiman’s paintings, and a Mae West-inspired gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in “The Seven Year Itch.”
Monroe and Hefner, both born in 1926, have their legacies intertwined, particularly with Monroe’s appearance in the inaugural 1953 issue of Playboy.
This partnership launched Hefner’s magazine to success and solidified Monroe’s status as a household name and enduring sex symbol.
Highlights of Hefner’s collection include artwork by famous artists like LeRoy Neiman, Andy Warhol, and Alberto Vargas.
Monroe’s collection features her personal wardrobe, photographs, documents, and film memorabilia, providing insight into her illustrious career and influence on American pop culture.
