Gebeng, Dec 11: China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) Contractor for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project, has officially commenced track-laying for the ECRL project.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah and Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.
This marks the initiation of a crucial 94-kilometre track-laying endeavour from Kuantan Port City (KPC) station in Gebeng to Dungun, Terengganu, with an estimated completion time of three to four months. Subsequently, the project will progress to lay tracks from KPC station to Temerloh, heading north from Dungun to Kota Bharu, and concluding from Temerloh to Jalan Kastam, Selangor.
Wang Tongzhou, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), CCC ECRL’s parent company, expressed gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong, stating, “Today’s event is not merely a ceremonial milestone but symbolizes the dawn of a new era in the construction of Malaysia’s flagship railway mega infrastructure, ECRL. The laying of the first track under royal auspices is a testament to our commitment to Malaysia’s progress, innovation, and enhanced connectivity.”
The ECRL track laying base at Kuantan Port City station includes essential functional areas such as the Construction Railway Operation Control Centre (CROCC), Concrete Sleeper Production Workshop, Temporary Track, and Rail Welding Workshop. Notably, the CROCC employs a smart operation management system for visual instruction and data analysis across the entire rail network.
To ensure a robust foundation enhancing passenger comfort during operation by minimizing joint vibrations, CCC-ECRL will utilize the cutting-edge CCPG500A Track Laying machine with 500-meter-long welded rail (LWR) and pre-stressed mono-block sleepers.
The precision track-laying machine is expected to lay approximately 1.5km to 2.5km of tracks per day, a significant increase from the conventional method.
In October, six customized diesel locomotives tailored to Malaysia’s local environment arrived to facilitate the transportation of track materials.
These locomotives, with a length of 22 meters and a maximum speed of 100 km/h, feature AC-DC electric transmission, a microcomputer control system, and a self-load resistance braking device.
The event was attended by distinguished guests including Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Home Affairs Malaysia Senator Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Chief Ministers of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang, Chairman of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) Wang Tongzhou, among others, signifies a significant step toward the ECRL project’s vision of connecting Malaysia’s East Coast states.
