Kuala Lumpur, Aug 19: I recently had the privilege of experiencing the Xiaomi range of gadgets, a collection not currently accessible on Australian soil.
The phones and tablets from Xiaomi truly impressed me, boasting exceptional camera capabilities that even outshine those of iPhones.
However, it’s unfortunate that the Australian public may never have the chance to appreciate these features, as the gadgets are exclusively available in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The strained relationship between Australia and China seems to be a contributing factor in preventing these gadgets from reaching Australian shores.
While I was tempted to bring one of these gadgets back from Malaysia, the concern that lingered was the lack of comprehensive after-sales support that is a hallmark of Apple products.
This unparalleled post-purchase care is often a driving factor for choosing Apple devices. Interestingly, I discovered that in Malaysia, Xiaomi users still receive after-sales support at the retail stores where the products were originally purchased, sometimes even through third-party avenues.
Now, let’s delve into a few of the impressive gadgets I had the pleasure of trying:
Xiaomi Redmi 12: A Blend of Style and Performance
The Redmi 12 caught my attention for its meticulous attention to detail. With a premium glass back and an innovative infinite camera design, this device not only looks fantastic but also feels comfortable to hold. Built with dust and splash resistance in mind, it’s rated IP53. The Redmi 12’s slimness, measuring just 8.17mm thick, sets it apart, offering a sleek design that’s almost 10 per cent thinner than its predecessor. It’s equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and an 18W Type-C fast charging port, ensuring convenience and connectivity. The device is available in Midnight Black, Sky Blue, and Polar Silver. The Redmi 12 boasts a top-notch display experience, featuring a 6.79-inch FHD+ DotDisplay with a 90Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate. Its vibrant 2460×1080 resolution enhances power efficiency and performance. Reading Mode 3.0 adds to the comfort by adjusting colors and textures for easier reading and browsing. The phone even features SGS Low Blue Light certification for reduced eye strain.
Redmi 12’s Photography Powerhouse
The camera system on the Redmi 12 is exceptional. A triple camera setup includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. This series introduces film camera filters, which, for the first time, bring seven unique filters with pixel-level calculations and real-time previews. These filters allow for creative photo editing and vintage effects.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G: Advanced Imaging and Performance
The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is a remarkable device that not only excels in camera hardware but also incorporates cutting-edge software like Xiaomi AI Image Solution and Xiaomi ProCut. With AI Image Solution, the phone intelligently detects subjects and enhances image quality through computational photography. The ProCut feature facilitates effortless photo composition with AI assistance. The device boasts a stunning ultra-clear Flow AMOLED display with a flagship 120Hz refresh rate, offering an exceptional scrolling and gaming experience. The Dolby Vision support enhances visual experiences, while the quad-speaker setup delivers impressive audio quality.
Xiomai Pad 6: Power and Productivity in One
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a powerful tool designed for both work and entertainment. With an 11-inch WQHD+ display, Snapdragon 870 Mobile Platform, and efficient battery, it’s geared towards multi-tasking professionals. Its MIUI for Pad software, upgraded Xiaomi Smart Pen (2nd generation), and Xiaomi Pad 6 Keyboard enhance productivity. The tablet’s centered ultra-wide front camera and exceptional sound quality make it suitable for video calls and multimedia consumption. In terms of design, the tablet features an aluminum-alloy unibody design with slim bezels, weighing just 490g. This sleek and stylish design, reminiscent of the flagship Xiaomi 13 Series, makes it an ideal companion for professionals on the go.
