The Ring Doorbell is a smart home device that is designed to provide homeowners with added security and convenience.
It is a Wi-Fi enabled doorbell that allows users to see and speak to anyone who comes to their front door via a mobile app on their smartphone or tablet.
The device features a high-definition camera that captures video footage and allows users to view live video and recordings of activity at their doorstep. The camera is equipped with night vision capabilities, ensuring that users can see visitors even in low light conditions.
The Ring Doorbell also has a built-in speaker and microphone, allowing users to communicate with visitors in real-time.
This feature can be particularly useful for package deliveries, allowing users to provide delivery instructions or ask questions about the delivery.
In addition to the video and audio capabilities, the Ring Doorbell also includes motion detection technology.
This allows the device to alert users whenever motion is detected at their front door, even if the visitor does not press the doorbell.
Users can set up customisable motion zones to ensure that they are only alerted when motion occurs in specific areas.
The Ring Doorbell also offers a range of additional features, including the ability to customise motion detection sensitivity, a rechargeable battery or wired power options, and the option to integrate with other smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa.
Overall, the Ring Doorbell is a useful and convenient addition to any smart home, providing added security and peace of mind to homeowners.

My personal take on the device

I recently got an opportunity to review the second generation Ring Video Doorbell.
I received the doorbell last week, and have been testing the product for a few days.
Okay, let’s start with the packaging, the Ring Video Doorbell comes packed in a small box. The contents include a silvered coloured video doorbell, a USB cable, a sticker depicting the brand, screws and a screwdriver.
The small packaging would be perfect as a gift for someone in need of a really cool, funky and interactive doorbell.
Gone are the days when doorbells used to be a form of an alerts that someone is at your front door.
These days with the Ring Video Doorbell, you can actually see who is at your door even when you are at work or on holidays by using your smartphone.
This is handy especially if there is someone lurking at your front door when you are away.

This is a very easy device to setup.
After you remove it from the box, there will be clear instructions telling you how you can pair the device with your smartphone.
Yes, you will need to have a smartphone to make this device work.
The realtime updates from the Ring video doorbells is delivered through an app installed on your smartphone.
In my opinion, the Ring Video Doorbell is only suitable to be used on landed properties and not on apartments.
The reason being you will not have a proper place to mount the doorbell in an apartment and may need permission from the landlord to do so.
To be honest, this is the first time I am trying the Ring Video Doorbell.
I have never owned a swanky doorbell like this as most of the apartments I have lived in before came equipped with either a built-in intercom or an in-house security with real life security guards.
So, there was never a need.
But despite that, I can confidently say that this is a great product to buy especially if you are in the market shopping for a doorbell.
The second generation Ring video doorbell retails at AU$149 and can be purchased here.
