My personal take on the laptop

I was recently given the JOI Classmate 30 laptop to be reviewed during my recent visit to Malaysia.
To be very honest, I had never heard of this brand prior to me receiving the unit but upon inspecting the laptop further, it reminded me of my Lenovo laptop.
I had reverted to using my Apple laptop since 2020.
Using the JOI Classmate 30 felt like using the Lenovo since it is Microsoft Office based.
You might be wondering how the transition went?
Pretty smooth I must say!I ran into some problem when I wanted to start the unit as I couldn’t get the @ sign to work properly.
I was then told that I had to switch the language settings from British English to American English and the @ sign miraculously appeared.
Once you key in your credentials like your email address and password, getting started was as easy as 1,2,3.
If you don’t have a Microsoft Outlook email account, you can still use your Gmail to sign in.
I did just that and within minutes had already completed my sign in process and was good to go.

There is no Safari pre-loaded in this laptop as Microsoft browsers are known as Edge and I noticed a lot of Microsoft programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint already pre-installed on the laptop and you only need a product key to get it to work.
Working out the other specific parts of the laptop was rather easy, all you need to do is follow instructions and walla everything would be in working order in no time.
Looking back, I didn’t encounter any problems with the setup except for the @ issue which was fixed easily.
All in all I found the laptop easy to use but it did take a bit of adjustment as I’ve always been an Apple user.
There is a button which connects you immediately to Skype or any other virtual meetings.
As for the outlook, it is a normal looking laptop without any fancy trimmings. That means it won’t be very attractive to anyone intending to steal the unit.
Despite the look, I found the laptop to be rather light weight with the battery lasting for at least a day.
As this laptop was made specifically for students, I find that the unit does the job well for its target market.
Some parents don’t have a big budget to spend on such gadgets especially if they have more than one child.
The JOI Classmate 30 covers computer usage which is needed by every student and it is affordable.
