eBay Australia has unveiled its hottest Christmas toys with classic, sustainable and affordable gifts topping the trends for the year.

Classic toys with a twist

Survey results from eBay Australia reveal the top toys Aussies plan on buying this Christmas are games and puzzles. With a board game sold every four minutes on eBay Australia, a love for classics remains strong post-pandemic.
The iconic Rubik’s Cube has soared in popularity by just over 50 per cent on eBay due to heightened popularity on social media. For kids keen to jump on the trend while challenging themselves, the Rubik’s Impossible Cube takes this classic to the next level.
“Some of the most popular classic toys this year are those with a modern twist and lend themselves to pop culture trends including Monopoly Stranger Things which has jumped more than 280 per cent on eBay following the success of the popular Netflix series,” eBay Australia’s Sophie Onikul said.
“LEGO remains a family favourite with a set sold every two minutes on eBay.
“With the upcoming release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, kids will be entertained for hours with LEGO Super Mario Peach’s Castle. ”

Sustainable toys

This year, eBay’s survey results show just over 40 percent of Aussies are more likely to buy a toy if they were aware it had been manufactured sustainably compared with previous years.
Showing a growing shift towards purchasing sustainable gifts, more than one-third or over 30 percent of Aussies are open to buying pre-loved or refurbished toys and a pre-loved toy is sold every minute on eBay.
“As Australia’s cultural barometer, we see what’s happening in the world reflected on site.
Environmentally-friendly toys are big this year with soft, plush toys made from recycled plastics like Resoftables, dolls made from recycled bottle caps, Recyclies & Friends Doll Pack and wooden sandpits trending on eBay,” she said.

Affordable toys

eBay’s survey found kids will still be spoiled this Christmas with most (almost 75 percent) of us purchasing gifts for children under 12.
While gifting remains valued, Aussies are feeling the pinch with two-thirds of Aussies surveyed or almost 60 percent saying the price of toys is a major factor in deciding which gifts they will buy due to cost of living pressures this year.
Those on a budget can find top toys under $50 on eBay including bubble guns made popular by TikTok like the Its Bubbles Light Bubble Blaster, interactive pets FurFluffs or Galt Slime Lab, great for sensory play.
“Christmas can be an expensive time of the year and with affordability top of mind, eBay has plenty of great toys for less than $50 including handheld bubble guns which have jumped in popularity by almost 1,450 per cent since they went viral on social media,” Onikul said.
To help with the cost of Christmas, from Nov 1 to 10, eBay Australia is offering 20 per cent off selected toys, with an additional five per cent (total of up to 25 per cent) off selected toys when checking out with Afterpay.
This Christmas, Aussies can visit eBay to shop the widest range of toys across toy categories including STEM (science, technology, education, mathematics), outdoor, sensory and entertainment-inspired at great prices.Onikul added, “eBay is helping cash-strapped Aussies spoil their kids and still save big this Christmas with 20 per cent off the hottest toys.
