Australia Post, Beyond Blue Team Up

Australia Post delivers mental health postcards to 3 million households.

Sydney, Sept 2: Australia Post’s popular free postcards will arrive in millions of letterboxes and at post offices around the country next week, helping Australians to check in and support one another ahead of R U OK? Day and in the lead-up to Mental Health Month.
In partnership with Beyond Blue, Australia Post will once again deliver three million free postcards, which
Australians can send free of charge to show they are thinking of family and friends.
As well as a blank, prepaid postcard to send to family or friends, there’s also a tear-off part that contains
helpful information about the importance of connection for our mental health.
Australia Post General Manager Community and Stakeholder Engagement Nicky Tracey said the postcards were a popular way to stay in touch when first launched in 2021 during lockdowns, and she was proud to continue to partner with Beyond Blue to connect millions of Australians.
The postcards will be delivered to suburban and regional households and are also available at selected post offices around the country.

Jail Time Over GST Fraud

Adelaide, Sept 2: A South Australian restaurant owner has been sentenced to five years and three months in jail after being found guilty of fraudulently obtaining $613,262 in GST refunds and attempting to obtain a further $210,333 in GST refunds which were stopped by the ATO.
He was also ordered to repay the amounts he fraudulently obtained.
Brad Redman, who owned and operated a restaurant and gift shop in McLaren Vale with his wife, submitted 14 false business activity statements (BAS) and five false revised BAS, overstating the business’ total sales, export sales, GST-free sales and acquisitions.
Redman was prosecuted by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions following a referral from the ATO.
Assistant Commissioner Jade Hawkins welcomed the court’s decision, saying it reiterates the ATO’s stance on GST fraud and its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the tax system.
“When you claim a refund that you’re not entitled to, you’re stealing from the community and disadvantaging everyone who does the right thing.

Reduce 59-Year Wait For Gender Equality In Australia

Jobs and Skills Summit must reduce the 59-year wait for gender equality in Australia.

Sydney, Sept 2: As the Jobs and Skills Summit continues, the latest Financy Women’s Index shows us that Australian women face a 59-year wait for gender equality in this country.
“Whilst Financy welcome’s the progressive discussion taking place at the Jobs and Skills Summit in respect to female employment, childcare and paid parental leave, it’s important to note that Australian women face a multi-generational wait for gender equality in this country and that’s because of the significant gap between the sexes in unpaid work,” Financy Founder Bianca Hartge-Hazelman said.
“Unpaid work is a huge barrier to women’s progress and achieving equality. It requires behavioural shifts in the home, schools and at work, as much as policy levers to change structural inequalities and the status quo for future generations,” Hartge-Hazelman said.
The Financy Women’s Index (FWX) is the only quarterly snapshot of women’s economic progress and timeframes for gender equality in Australia. The FWX looks at gender equality across seven critical areas: education, employment, underemployment, wages, unpaid work, ASX 200 board gender diversity and superannuation.
The Financy Women’s Index June quarter report found that whilst it will take 59 years to achieve equality in unpaid work, it will take about half that time before equality is realised in employment.
