Sydney, Jan 24: This website was supposed to score the scoop of a lifetime through a much anticipated podcast interview with Malaysia’s 4th and 7th Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.
It was supposed to be held at 9.30 am Malaysian time but alas unfortunately the interview had to be rescheduled due reasons we all now know.
I was supposed to conduct the interview and had been looking forward to it for the last two months since I formally made a request to him through his aides from Sydney, Australia.
Although I am absolutely gutted that the interview did not go on as planned, I completely understand why it had to be cancelled and I wish nothing but the best of health for Dr Mahathir and a speedy recovery.
At the time of writing, I found out that Dr Mahathir’s health remains ‘status quo’ or in other words unchanged.
It was earlier reported that Dr Mahathir had been admitted to IJN (National Heart Institute) on January 7 and discharged on January 13 after undergoing an elective medical procedure on January 8.
However, on Saturday, the former premier was readmitted again to the institute for reasons unknown.
His daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir had issued a statement stating that her father’s condition was stable and that he was responding well to treatment.
Recently, she also said that he had even interacted with family members.
Dr Mahathir, 96, is currently Malaysia’s oldest serving Member of Parliament, representing Langkawi in Kedah.
Prior to that he held the prime ministership post for almost 24 years from 1981.
He first retired from the role in 2003, but returned to office as head of the Pakatan Harapan coalition and subsequently was made prime minister for the second time after winning the historic May 8, 2018 election.
Dr Mahathir has had a history of heart ailments and has suffered three heart attacks in the past- one in 1989 and two in 2006 – and underwent a quadruple bypass in 2007.
