Perth, Sept 25: Doctor Who fans will get the chance to see David Tennant and Billie Piper’s Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler on the big screen for the first time, with a special extended cut screening on 23 November to mark Doctor Who Day.
Doctor Who: The Satan Pit Extended Cut will screen for one night only in more than 1,000 cinemas across the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The event, presented by BBC Studios, CinemaLive and Fathom Entertainment, also marks 20 years since the Tenth Doctor and Rose era.
The screening combines the 2006 two-part story The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit into a newly re-edited, movie-length cut. It restores deleted scenes previously only available on DVD and adds never-before-seen extended footage.
Regarded as one of the standout stories of modern Doctor Who, the adventure sees the TARDIS land on Sanctuary Base 6, a remote outpost on a planet orbiting a black hole. The Doctor and Rose face the Ood, who made their first appearance in the story, and an ancient evil known as the Beast.
The screening will also include an exclusive interview with director and producer James Strong, a multiple BAFTA and International Emmy winner, on the making of the story.
“Part of what makes Doctor Who so extraordinary is that there is always more to discover,” said Natasha Spence, Global Events Director at BBC Studios.
John Travers, Head of Acquisitions & Distribution at CinemaLive, said the event followed a strong fan response to last year’s season finale screenings in the UK and Ireland, and had been expanded so audiences in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand could also take part.

Doctor Who Day is held annually on 23 November, the anniversary of the show’s first episode on the BBC in 1963.
