Targus Work+ EcoSmart Backpack Review

By June Ramli

Perth, Sept 2: Finding the right backpack for travelling with technology isn’t always as straightforward as it sounds.
I’ve used plenty of backpacks over the years, but after taking the Targus 15–16-inch Work+ EcoSmart Backpack on a recent overseas trip, I found that its biggest advantage is that it has clearly been designed with the modern remote worker in mind.
It manages to combine the practicality of a work bag with the versatility needed when travelling.
One of its standout features is the detachable tech organiser, which provides dedicated space for a laptop of up to 16 inches as well as a tablet of up to 13 inches.
For me, having separate storage for technology was particularly useful while travelling.
Rather than having a laptop, documents, chargers and other essentials mixed together inside the main compartment, everything could be organised and accessed relatively easily.
And there is plenty of room.
With a 23-litre capacity, the backpack can accommodate everyday work essentials while still leaving enough space for personal items.
If packed carefully, I found there was even room for a change of clothes, making it particularly useful for flights and short trips.
The numerous compartments are another plus.

The Targus Work+ EcoSmart Backpack offers a sleek, comfortable design for professionals carrying their tech on the move.

There are dedicated spaces for smaller tech accessories, a soft-lined accessory pocket, a hidden security side pocket and an expandable side pocket that can accommodate a water bottle or tripod.
Security has also been considered.
The backpack features lockable zippers and anti-theft zipper webbings, which provide some additional reassurance when travelling through airports or crowded locations.
Its Multi-Flex strap is particularly clever, converting between a sternum strap, trolley strap, security strap or utility strap depending on how the backpack is being used.
Despite carrying my laptop and other belongings, I found the backpack comfortable to use while travelling.
The padded and ventilated back panel and contoured shoulder straps are useful when you’re carrying it for longer periods.
The backpack also has a sleek, understated appearance.
It doesn’t immediately look like a bulky laptop bag, which means it works just as well for travelling as it does for heading into an office or working remotely.
Another noteworthy element is Targus’ EcoSmart construction.
The interior incorporates recycled materials, including the equivalent of seven recycled water bottles.
After travelling with it, what impressed me most was its versatility.
You can carry your laptop and work equipment, organise smaller belongings, add some personal items and still have a backpack that is compact enough for everyday travel.
For remote workers, frequent travellers or anyone who regularly carries a laptop between locations, the Targus Work+ EcoSmart Backpack is a practical and well-designed option.
The Targus 15–16-inch Work+ EcoSmart Backpack (TBB657GL) is priced at AUD $129.95.
