Perth, Aug 24: SUR Direct’s ready-to-eat chimichurri range offers a simple way to add extra flavour to salads, meat and everyday meals without preparing a sauce from scratch.
I recently tried both the Original Chimichurri and Hot Chimichurri after receiving complimentary samples for review.
Both were enjoyable and easy to use straight from the jar.
The Original Chimichurri has a fresh, savoury flavour created with herbs, garlic and vinegar. It works particularly well as a salad dressing or as an accompaniment spooned over cooked meat.
The Hot Chimichurri provides a similar flavour with an added chilli kick. The heat gives it more intensity without completely overwhelming the herbs and other ingredients.
I have not yet had time to test either variety as a marinade for chicken or other meat, although both appear suitable for that purpose.
My experience was limited to using them as ready-to-eat additions to meals, where they provided flavour without requiring any extra preparation.
That convenience is one of the range’s main attractions. A spoonful can brighten a basic salad or add another dimension to grilled or roasted meat. The sauces could also be served with seafood, eggs, sandwiches or roasted vegetables.
Founded by Carlos and Janet Cordova, Australian family-owned SUR Direct draws on the couple’s Latin American heritage and traditional recipes. Both varieties are made in Australia using Australian ingredients and contain no artificial additives or preservatives. They are also gluten-free and vegan-friendly.
The Original and Hot Chimichurri are available from Harris Farm Markets in-store and online for $15 each.
My verdict is positive. Both sauces tasted good and were convenient enough to use as everyday flavour boosters. I particularly liked their versatility and expect to try them as marinades when I have more time to experiment.
