Alpaca National Show Returns To Bendigo

Perth, July 31: Australia’s alpaca farmers and enthusiasts will descend on Bendigo this August for the Australian Alpaca National Show, the biggest event on the Australian Alpaca Association’s calendar.
Running from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, the free event will feature more than 300 alpacas competing in the show ring, alongside fleece judging, trade booths, and local art and craft stalls.
AAA President Mark Gumbley said the show is a chance to introduce more people to alpacas and highlight the industry behind them. “We’re excited to welcome the community to the Bendigo Showgrounds, as well as alpaca farmers from all over Australia to celebrate our world-class standard of livestock,” Mark said.
Halter judging will be led by Australian judge Natasha Clark and British Alpaca Society judge Mary Jo Smith, with Rubey Williams judging fleece. A paint night will also be held at 7pm on Friday 7 August, with guests able to sip wine and paint their own alpaca artwork in the show ring for $80 each — no experience required.

Engadine Street Festival Returns Bigger

Crowds pack the street at a previous Engadine Street Festival, which returns bigger than ever on Sunday 30 August.

Perth, July 31: Engadine’s town centre will close to traffic on Sunday 30 August as the Sutherland Shire’s biggest free street festival returns, bringing more than 200 market stalls and thousands of visitors to Old Princes Highway and Station Street.
Running from 9am to 3pm, the Engadine Street Festival will feature artisan makers, gourmet street food, live music, amusement rides and free family entertainment. This year’s food line-up includes viral matcha bars Cha Cha Cha Matcha and Chayuu Matcha, US bakery chain Crumbl Cookies, and local craft distillers Banks & Solander, Finders, Karu and Port Jackson Distilling Co., alongside wood-fired pizza, Greek souvlaki, Colombian arepas, Portuguese tarts, dumplings and paella.
Beyond food, more than 200 stallholders will sell handmade jewellery, candles, leather goods, homewares, fashion and gifts, with kids’ activities including amusement rides, face painting, roving entertainers and a hands-on reptile encounter with the Reptile Man.
Festival principal sponsor Rhys Christofa of McGrath Engadine said the event delivers a major boost to local trade. “As someone who lives and works in Engadine, I see first-hand what a day like this does for the town. Last year the street was packed from open to close, the cafés and shops were buzzing, and stallholders told me it was one of their best trading days of the year,” he said.
Cambridge Markets Director Madelienne Anderson said the festival’s growth reflects what families across the Shire are looking for. “People are being careful with money right now, so we’re proud this is a day where you can bring the kids, be entertained from morning to afternoon and not pay a cent at the gate,” Ms Anderson said.
The festival is sponsored by Rhys Christofa of McGrath Engadine and supported by Sutherland Shire Council and Club Engadine RSL.
