Sydney, June 2: Last week, I was given the opportunity to catch Mission Impossible starring Tom Cruise at the HOYTS Xtreme Cinema in Broadway, thanks to a couple of complimentary tickets.
As someone who doesn’t usually go to the movies on a Monday, this was a real treat—and HOYTS didn’t disappoint.
The film itself was intense and action-packed, although I did feel that some scenes borrowed heavily from older instalments and felt a bit botched in parts.
Still, the overarching storyline was eye-opening, especially the way it dove into the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The message was clear—terrorists may no longer be the biggest threat, but rather the rise of bots and what they’re capable of. It was a chilling, futuristic take that definitely left an impression.
The movie was quite long—over four hours—and required full concentration.
Admittedly, there were moments I had to close my eyes, especially during some of the overly dramatic or fast-cut scenes. And then, of course, there was Tom Cruise.

He’s definitely aged, and the youthful charm I once admired has shifted—but that’s expected. Some stunts felt overly exaggerated or downright impossible, but hey, it is called Mission Impossible for a reason.
What made the whole experience better was the cinema itself – watching it in HOYTS’ Xtreme screen made a huge difference.
The recliner seats meant I could stretch out, prop my legs up, and actually enjoy the film comfortably.
Although, I did notice the leather on some chairs was quite worn out—hopefully HOYTS will consider replacing or upgrading those soon.
That said, a big kudos to HOYTS, who just recently won a 2025 Australian Web Award in the Mobile App category, cementing their position as a digital leader in the entertainment industry.
Only two apps were recognised in this category, and HOYTS stood out for its innovation, user experience, and technical performance.
Their new app—launched just six months ago—is the result of an 18-month collaboration with Chook Digital.
It’s packed with features like personalised notifications, watchlists, exclusive member rewards, and more.
HOYTS Director of IT Adam Wrightson called the win “a powerful validation” of their team’s work, and rightly so. The app really enhances the overall cinema experience and makes bookings and updates a breeze.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed both the movie and the experience. While Mission Impossible left me questioning what AI might bring to the future, the HOYTS app shows just how far we’ve already come in blending technology with entertainment.
So, if you haven’t already—download the HOYTS app, book a seat at an Xtreme screen, and give yourself a chance to recline, relax, and escape.
