British Airways Boosts Punctuality

British Airways has more than doubled its on-time performance thanks to advanced AI and machine learning tools, part of its £7 billion transformation investment.
The airline reported 86 per cent on-time departures from Heathrow in Q1 2025—its best D-15 punctuality on record—up from 46 per cent in 2008. In April, two-thirds of flights departed ahead of schedule, more than double compared to the same period in 2023.
A £100 million operational resilience investment has led to the development of over 800 tech projects, including tools for real-time weather rerouting, predictive disruption response, and efficient gate assignments.
British Airways continues to roll out more tools in the coming months, aiming to further enhance performance and reduce delays.
IATA Unveils Baggage Roadmap
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched a 10-year Global Baggage Roadmap aimed at modernising baggage operations and improving passenger experience.
Developed with airlines, airports, and partners, the roadmap focuses on three pillars: standardising baggage data exchange, enhancing tracking and automation with digital tags and GPS, and streamlining baggage claims to reduce fraud and improve resolution speed.
The initiative supports IATA’s broader goals of advancing ground operations, safety, and customer service, with implementation support to follow.
