Sydney, May 1: Jetstar is marking its 21st birthday in truly medieval fashion with a nationwide call to arms for the “Knights of the Skies” tournament — a live action role-play (LARP) battle set to take place in Melbourne on May 25, with $50,000 in flight vouchers up for grabs.
Tapping into the historical significance of turning 21, when squires once earned their knighthood, the budget airline is inviting Australians to don DIY medieval costumes and enter via Instagram or Facebook for a chance to participate in the epic showdown.
Entries can include photos of costumes fashioned from household items like dusters-as-swords and pillow armour.
Eight selected entrants will join forces with seasoned LARP fighters from Australia’s largest LARPing group, Swordcraft, for the grand tournament at Melbourne Park.
The overall winner will take home the lion’s share of the prize pool, while runners-up will also be rewarded.
Australian comedian and radio host Liam Stapleton has been enlisted as the event’s official host and will be fully embracing the fantasy as the Jetstar “LARP wizard” on the day.
Letita Pullen from Swordcraft welcomed the partnership with Jetstar, highlighting the growing popularity of LARPing across Australia and encouraging those intrigued by the event to join their local chapter.
Jetstar’s campaign aims not only to celebrate its own milestone but also to shine a spotlight on the LARPing community and encourage Aussies to let their imaginations take flight — both figuratively and literally.
