Sydney, Dec 27: As someone who heavily relies on stable internet for work and entertainment, I was excited to try the AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 VDSL2/ADSL2+ Modem Router (DSL-X3052E).
The promise of next-generation speeds, reduced congestion, and compatibility with Australia’s DSL services sounded like a dream come true for a tech enthusiast like me.
However, my experience was a mixed bag.
Setting up the router was straightforward at first, thanks to the easy-to-follow instructions provided in the box.
However, I hit a roadblock when it came to connecting the device to my Telstra service. After a frustrating few hours of trial and error, I decided to call customer care.
The support team, based in the Philippines, was friendly and patient, walking me through the configuration step by step.

Eventually, the router connected successfully.
When it was up and running, the performance was impressive.
The 5 GHz band provided blazing speeds, and I noticed a significant improvement in range compared to my old router.
Streaming, browsing, and handling multiple devices simultaneously felt seamless, thanks to the advanced features like OFDMA and MU-MIMO.
The Target Wake Time (TWT) technology was a nice bonus, as I noticed my devices drained less battery while connected.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon phase didn’t last long. While the router worked fine on its own, it seemed to interfere with my Telstra connection.
The issues ranged from intermittent drops to slower-than-expected speeds.
After several days of troubleshooting, I had no choice but to switch back to my original Telstra modem for stability.
The DSL-X3052E is packed with features and shows promise, especially for users looking to future-proof their Wi-Fi setup.
However, compatibility with specific ISPs, like Telstra in my case, may require additional configuration or even sacrifices in performance.

Verdict:
If you’re tech-savvy or willing to spend time with customer support, the AX3000 DSL-X3052E can be a solid upgrade for a Smart Home setup. However, those who rely on seamless ISP integration might want to verify compatibility before investing. While I’ll give it another try in the future, for now, I’m back to my Telstra modem for better connectivity.
Disclosure: The writer received a complimentary unit of the DSL-X3052E in return for an honest review.
