Sydney, Oct 31: What started as a $200 neon sign rental side hustle has transformed into a multimillion-dollar powerhouse in the neon signage industry.
Steve Pastor, founder of Kings of Neon, took his business journey to new heights on Shark Tank Australia, captivating viewers with his bold negotiation as he turned down a $300,000 offer from Nick Bell for just a three per cent stake in the company.
Pastor’s journey began on the Central Coast of New South Wales, where he grew up in modest circumstances.
His early career was shaped by a dream to buy a home, leading him to work in the remote diamond mines of Western Australia.
Later, he transitioned into sales roles with brands like Fitness First and Michael Hill before establishing himself as a successful DJ.
However, the pandemic brought the music industry to a standstill, pushing Pastor to reimagine his career and focus on neon signs—a venture that has since boomed beyond expectation.
Kings of Neon has since become a global player, achieving $6.5 million in revenue last year alone. Pastor’s neon signs now illuminate events and establishments across four countries, serving high-profile clients like Janet Jackson, the NFL, Coles, and DoorDash.
His team of 40 is spread worldwide, working to fulfill custom requests from iconic clients, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Hershey’s.
With continuous growth and high-profile partnerships, Kings of Neon stands as a testament to what’s possible with quick thinking, resilience, and a drive to innovate.
“Shark Tank was like performing at the biggest gig of my life,” Pastor shared, describing the adrenaline-fueled experience on the show. The intensity of his negotiation demonstrated the confidence and vision that have fueled Kings of Neon’s success, establishing Pastor not just as a DJ but as a leader in the neon signage industry.
