Cruises Offer Big Savings

Sydney, Sept 10: Aussie travelers can save $100 or more per day on holiday costs by choosing a cruise instead of a traditional on-land getaway, according to analysis by Money.com.au.
The study compared the cost of cruises for two people from Australia to three popular destinations with equivalent on-land holidays, factoring in flights, accommodation, meals, and activities.
For a 10-night South Pacific cruise from Sydney to New Zealand, travelers could save $1,016 overall, as the cruise costs $4,997 compared to $6,013 for a traditional holiday.
That translates to $101.60 less per day.
A 13-night cruise to Fiji would save $1,325, with the cruise costing $6,208 and a traditional holiday running $7,533.
The daily savings amount to $101.92.
The biggest savings come from a 21-night transpacific cruise to Hawaii.
While the cruise costs $7,278, a traditional holiday would cost $12,680, leading to an overall savings of $5,402, or $257.23 per day.
Money.com.au’s finance expert, Sean Callery, explains that the savings stem from the all-inclusive nature of cruises, where meals, entertainment, and drinks are often bundled into the fare.
However, he notes that fewer departure locations for cruises can sometimes add additional travel costs.
