Sydney, May 31: Qantas and Perth Airport have reached a historic 12-year commercial agreement, unlocking multi-billion-dollar investments and enhancing Australia’s tourism industry.
This deal includes a $3 billion investment by Perth Airport in new terminal facilities and a parallel runway, forming part of a $5 billion capital investment program—the largest private infrastructure development in Perth’s history.
In a statement issued by Qantas today, the company said the program also includes two multi-storey carparks, major access roadworks, and the airport’s first hotel.
Qantas and Jetstar will relocate all services to a new terminal in the Airport Central precinct, enabling growth and establishing Western Australia as a major hub for the airlines.
By 2031, Qantas and Jetstar plan to add 4.4 million seats annually to and from Perth, enhancing inbound tourism and offering Australians more travel options to Asia, Africa, India, and Europe.
The new terminal promises a world-leading travel experience with seamless transfers and state-of-the-art facilities.
Qantas will collaborate with Perth Airport on a multi-lounge precinct featuring bespoke dining and wellness initiatives.

Additionally, Qantas plans to build a new engineering hangar in the Airport Central precinct.
Perth Airport will also upgrade Terminals 3 and 4, the current base for Qantas domestic and international flights, to create additional capacity during the new terminal’s construction.
From September 2024, Jetstar will relocate its domestic services to Terminal 2 before moving to the Airport Central terminal.
These upgrades will allow Qantas to add new services and destinations from Perth, including Auckland and Johannesburg from mid-2025, subject to border agency requirements.
The works will also include gate upgrades to accommodate ultra-long-haul aircraft, including Qantas’ Project Sunrise Airbus A350s arriving in 2026.
A new parallel runway is expected to open in 2028, supporting growth in Western Australia’s critical resources sector and future-proofing aviation in the region.
Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson remarked, “This is the largest airport infrastructure deal in our history. It will enable us to create a world-class western hub and significantly expand our domestic and international services over the short, medium, and long term.”
Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters stated, “Western Australians will now see the largest-ever private investment in an infrastructure development in Perth—a once-in-a-lifetime investment program that will completely change the face of Perth Airport over the next decade.”
Western Australian Premier Roger Cook added, “This commitment cements our place as the Western Gateway to Australia. By opening up new flight routes and adding millions of extra passenger seats each year, we’re positioning WA as a major tourist destination in the region.”
The agreement resolves all outstanding commercial disputes between Perth Airport and Qantas.
