San Claims Vios Cup

Rawang, May 16: Paul San celebrated his first victory on the Toyota Tour by securing the Vios Cup with a composed final round at Templer Park Country Club.
San finished with a four-under 68, capping a total score of 208, to win by three strokes.
Starting the day with a narrow lead, San maintained his advantage with critical birdies on the 6th, 7th, and 11th holes.
Despite a bogey on the 13th, he bounced back with birdies on the 15th and 16th, which solidified his lead.
“I didn’t want to stress myself on putting. This is a ball-striking layout,” San explained, emphasizing his strategic approach.
San’s triumph marks a significant milestone following a challenging 17-month period. “Winning on the Toyota Tour is a great confidence booster,” he remarked, acknowledging the hard work and emotional journey he has navigated.
In a close contest for second, Malcolm Ting concluded the tournament three strokes behind San, while a stellar performance by veteran Ben Leong, who shot a seven-under 65, propelled him to a tie for third with Amir Nazrin, Anson Yeo, and Afif Fathi.
In the Ladies Championship, amateur Ng Jing Xuen, also known as JX, claimed victory over Aretha Pan by three strokes.
Ng praised her mother’s support from the caddy position, helping her manage the pressures of competitive play.
“She did a really great job especially helping me to control my emotions and frustrations,” Ng shared.
The Toyota Tour continues its season with upcoming rounds in East Malaysia, including the Fortuna Cup in Sibu and the Hilux Cup in Sabah, as the competition heats up.
Final scores saw San leading the men’s division, while Ng topped the ladies’ leaderboard, setting up both for continued success in the upcoming tournaments.
