Kuala Lumpur, May 15: Paul San is poised for his first victory on the Toyota Tour after taking the lead at the Vios Cup held at Templer Park Country Club. With only one round left, San is a single stroke ahead of competitors Afif Fathi, Malcolm Ting, and amateur Anson Yeo.
San, who won his first professional tournament two years ago at Glenmarie, expressed contentment with his current form but remains focused on his personal objectives.
“There aren’t many scoring holes at Templer’s so I just had to stay controlled and keeping my body hydrated,” San said.
He added, “Whatever happens, will happen and hopefully I’ll be able to regain the focus I had when I won my first pro tournament.”
The final round promises to be challenging with the course set up under tough, fair conditions, further complicated by the hot, humid, and windy weather.
Fifty players made the cut at nine-over, while only seven managed to shoot below par.
In the Ladies Championship, amateur Ng Jing Xuen leads by a stroke with an even-par 72, totaling a two-day aggregate of 146.
She is closely followed by Aretha Pan, Geraldine Wong, amateur Tan Ying Ying, and defending champion Jocelyn Chee.
Meanwhile, Afif Fathi is eyeing back-to-back victories after his recent win on the PGAM satellite tour. Despite some struggles around the greens, Afif feels positive about his iron play.
“I’ve been working closely with coach Lim Siew Ai and my mental coach Marcus Lim for a couple of months and we’ve been a great team so far. They are able to show me how to tackle my weaknesses,” Afif remarked.
“I feel good about where my game is heading and with this confidence going into the final round tomorrow I might stand a chance. I’ll just focus on what I can do and pray for the best.”
The Toyota Tour, managed by Professional Golf Malaysia and delivered by MST Golf, will conclude tomorrow, and all eyes will be on the leaders as they navigate the final 18 holes.
