Kuala Lumpur, May 15: Canon Inc. has announced the development of the EOS R1, set to be the first flagship model of the EOS R SYSTEM, which will be equipped with an RF mount. Scheduled for release in 2024, the EOS R1 is a full-frame mirrorless camera designed for professional use across various demanding fields such as sports, news reporting, and video production.
The EOS R1 integrates Canon’s latest technological advancements, offering superior performance, robust durability, and the high reliability expected in a flagship model.
Key to this new camera is the integration of the newly developed DIGIC Accelerator alongside the existing DIGIC X processor. This combination, along with a new CMOS sensor, allows for high-speed data processing and brings significant improvements in Auto Focus (AF) capabilities and image quality.
Canon’s advancements in deep learning technology have notably enhanced subject recognition speeds and accuracy.
This feature is particularly beneficial in dynamic environments such as team sports, where it ensures continuous tracking of the intended subject even amidst complex movements and obstructions. The AF “Action Priority” function plays a crucial role during unpredictable moments in sports by automatically identifying and focusing on the main subject performing critical actions, such as a player shooting a ball.
Moreover, Canon has enhanced the camera’s image quality by incorporating a sophisticated noise reduction function, previously available only in PC software, directly into the camera.
This development not only elevates image quality but also expands creative possibilities for users.
As part of its final development phase, Canon is conducting extensive field tests of the EOS R1, aiming to capture pivotal moments at upcoming international sports events.
