Sydney, Dec 14: Epson Atmix has begun construction of a groundbreaking sustainable metal refinery. This new facility will revolutionize the recycling of waste metal into valuable raw materials for metal powder production, aligning with Epson’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Under its ambitious Environmental Vision 2050, Epson aims to achieve carbon negativity and eliminate the need for underground resources by 2050.
This new factory is a significant stride towards these goals, underscoring Epson’s dedication to enriching communities and fostering sustainable practices.
The refinery is a key element of Epson’s environmental strategy, as outlined in the Epson 25 Renewed corporate vision.
It focuses on the development of environmental technologies for recycling materials like metal and paper, ultimately leading to the creation of innovative new business avenues.
With increasing challenges in sourcing virgin materials due to scarcity and rising costs, the new factory presents a sustainable solution by producing metal powders from recycled resources.
It will feature advanced technology, including a high-frequency induction furnace for metal melting, an AOD refining furnace for impurity removal, and a casting machine for ingot formation.
Epson Atmix plans to recycle various metals, including manufacturing by-products, scraps, and used materials from the Epson Group.
This initiative not only conserves underground resources but also significantly reduces CO₂ emissions by replacing high-purity iron from traditional blast furnaces with recycled materials.
Furthermore, the factory will introduce an innovative refining process, enhancing the development of next-generation high-performance powders.
These advancements are expected to improve magnetic properties and amorphous forming capabilities, contributing to the creation of compact, energy-efficient devices.
This initiative represents a crucial step in Epson Atmix’s journey towards achieving its 2050 goal of eliminating reliance on underground resources, as outlined in its Environmental Vision 2050.
The investment amount for this project remains undisclosed.
