This new feature aims to provide users with an enhanced level of protection for their sensitive conversations, building on the success of the previously introduced Chat Lock earlier this year.
WhatsApp introduced Chat Lock as a measure to help users safeguard their more confidential discussions.
With the unveiling of Secret Code, users now have an additional tool to make their locked chats even more secure, particularly in situations where others may have access to their phones or share a device with them.
The Secret Code feature allows users to set a unique password distinct from their phone unlock code, providing an extra layer of privacy for locked chats.
Notably, users can choose to further conceal their conversations by opting to hide the Locked Chats folder from their main chat list.
In this setting, access to locked chats becomes exclusive, requiring users to enter the secret code in the search bar to discover them.
Alternatively, users can continue to display locked chats in the chat list if that better aligns with their preferences.
A user-friendly update accompanying the Secret Code feature is the ability to long-press on a chat to lock it, eliminating the need to navigate through the chat’s settings.
This streamlined process aims to empower users to protect their conversations effortlessly.
Expressing delight in the positive reception of Chat Lock within the community, WhatsApp is optimistic that the Secret Code feature will further enhance user experience and privacy.
