The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 have launched the official logo of the competition.
The logo was revealed to audiences at the Final Draw at the Katara Opera House in Doha, Qatar, on May 11.
The newly launched logo combines the silhouette of the famous AFC Asian Cup trophy with unique cultural elements that embody the competition’s spirit.
The lines of the trophy draw inspiration from the feathers of the majestic falcon, a bird with historical significance to the nation of Qatar, and the petals of Asia’s indigenous lotus flower.
The top of the logo is adorned with the iconic maroon, or ennabi, Qatar’s national color.
The typography of the logo is inspired by Arabic calligraphy, paying homage to the nation’s language and its beautiful calligraphy.
Finally, the logo is tailed with a shape resembling a diamond, which is the Arabic “nuqta” or dot that can be seen across many Arabic letters and is considered to be a symbol of clarity in Arabic writing.
The design of the logo reinforces the ambitions of the AFC and the LOC to leverage Asia’s most prestigious showpiece to underline football as the Continent’s number one sport by engaging with the hundreds of millions of passionate fans of Asian football.
The President of AFC, Shaikh Salman Ebrahim Al Khalifa, stated that the newly launched logo presents pronounced elements of the dazzling AFC Asian Cup trophy unveiled at the last edition, as well as the warm Qatari and Arabic culture.
The Chairman of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 LOC, H.E. Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Ahmed Al Thani, said that the logo highlights the richness of Qatar’s culture and puts in motion a countdown to the Continent’s most prestigious football tournament.
As the preparations for the competition reach the final stages, the logo will be a prominent feature across the host city, the eight confirmed venues, as well as on competition collaterals and various online platforms that will further enhance the stature and brand of Asia’s flagship competition.
The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 will take place from 12 January to 10 February in Qatar.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) also announced the official match schedule for the 18th edition of Asia’s crown jewel.
Hosts for a record third time, defending champions Qatar will get Asia’s most prestigious competition underway by facing Lebanon on Friday, Jan 12, 2024, at 7.30 pm, Qatar time.
The 68,895-capacity Al Bayt Stadium is set to witness an opening spectacle between the two West Asian teams, who have previously only met once in AFC Asian Cup history.
The sole debutants in this year’s edition, Tajikistan, will take on China PR in their historic maiden fixture at the AFC Asian Cup.
It presents an opportunity for the Central Asian nation to showcase their ability to compete against the Continent’s elite. China PR are making their 13th tournament appearance and will welcome the Tajiks in this Group A clash on Saturday, January 13, 5.30 pm at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
The top FIFA-ranked team in their respective Pots, Japan (Pot 1) and 2007 winners Iraq (Pot 2) are set for an exciting showdown when they meet for only the third time in AFC Asian Cup history.
Record four-time champions Japan got the better of Iraq in the Quarter-Finals in 2000 en-route to winning their second Asian crown, and this encounter on Friday, Jan 19, at 2.30 pm at the Education City Stadium might decide who finishes top.
