New analysis into the spending habits of Australians conducted by meal kit delivery company EveryPlate has found Valentine’s Day is becoming increasingly more expensive.
According to a survey conducted last year, Australians spent $415 million on Valentine’s Day, which could increase this year thanks to rising trends in household spending.
The results show that men are more likely to spend more than women, with men set to spend an average of $132 per person versus $73 for women) with an overall estimated total of $314 million versus $101 million for women.
Over a quarter (28 per cent) of Australians planned to spend money on food, chocolate or alcohol.
This was higher in NSW (40 per cent) and South Australia (43 per cent).
As Australians spend more money than ever on romantic gestures for the day, it’s clear that Aussies are feeling the pressure to make their loved one feel special.
To support romantics, EveryPlate has pulled together a list of budget-friendly and home cooked meals to spoil that special someone this Valentine’s Day.
