Practicing Makes Perfect
Kia Ora! Welcome to another episode of 30 minutes with DailyStraits.com. Our guest today is New Zealand-based entrepreneur Sonia McManus, the owner of Sonia Therese Design.
After losing her previous business to the Christchurch earthquake in 2011, Sonia decided to look for a new path in life, prompting her fashion career to start abruptly.
Having always been passionate about beauty, Sonia decided to dabble into the world of jewellery designing.
This self-taught designer learned the art of jewellery designing after watching countless YouTube videos whilst practising close to 40 hours a week to horn her skills.
Her business has since grown from strength to strength from the early days and recently Sonia’s designs has received a lot of traction overseas.
She has received various invites from the New York, Paris and London Fashion Week to exhibit her designs at the fair virtually this year.
Our interview today with Sonia will delve into the methods she used to teach herself jewellery designing and how she marketed her business single-handedly from the get-go.
Among the things discussed in this podcast are:
- How long did it take for you to master the art of jewellery designing?
- Who was your first customer?
- How did the overseas fashion invites to New York, Paris and London come about?
Without further ado, let’s listen to the interview here:
