Svelte Passed My Leak Test

By June Ramli

Perth, Oct 2: When Australian HYROX champion Joanna Wietrzyk experienced bowel incontinence mid-competition, it opened up a conversation many Australians have been having privately for years. Leakage affects people of all ages and fitness levels, and the products designed to manage it matter more than most of us realise.
So when Svelte, an Australian brand founded by former global health procurement specialist Liz Anieto, pitched its pull-up continence underwear as “comfort-first,” I wanted to see whether it lived up to the promise. The brand sent me a sample pack, along with a handwritten note from Anieto and some product information, and I put a pair on as soon as it arrived.
Svelte is a disposable pull-up, designed in Australia and made in Japan. It’s unisex, comes in Medium (75–130cm) and Large (100–140cm) based on your waist or hip measurement, and is made without PFAS, added fragrance or lotion.

Up close, Svelte looks like a standard pull-up, but on the body it felt like regular underwear.

The brand pitches it for everyday daytime wear and light overnight use, sitting somewhere between thin liners and the bulkier high-capacity products many people associate with incontinence.
At first glance, it reminded me of something familiar. Before moving into law, I worked as an early childhood educator, and I helped many toddlers make the move from nappies to pull-up training pants. Out of the pack, Svelte follows that same pull-up design, so I expected it to feel like an adult nappy.
It didn’t. Once it was on, it was very comfortable and felt like any other pair of underwear. As someone with a bigger stomach, I appreciated that it sat snugly around the tummy. Svelte says its waistband is designed to stretch and recover as your body moves and your stomach shape changes when sitting or bending, and that matched my experience. Plenty of underwear rolls or digs in there; this stayed put, and the firmer fit made it feel more secure.

I also put it to a real-world test. I held off going to the toilet until the absolute last minute, and some leaked before I made it. The underwear caught it, and nothing came through to my shorts. With regular underwear, that would have been an embarrassing mess. Svelte credits this to a fast-absorbing core and soft, raised leak guards around the thighs.
That’s exactly the situation I had in mind for busy parents. Svelte has a broader audience than people might assume. The brand lists people who are mobile or semi-mobile, those buying for someone they care for, and women dealing with postpartum bleeding. I’d add parents who always leave their bathroom break until the last possible minute because there’s a child to pick up, a meal to make or a meeting running over.

A handwritten note from Svelte founder Liz Anieto arrived with the sample.

It’s worth being clear about what Svelte isn’t. The brand itself says that for heavy overnight use, mostly bed-based care, or regular or unpredictable bowel incontinence, a higher-capacity or more specialised product may be a better fit. That honesty is welcome, and it’s worth keeping in mind given the incident that sparked this conversation.

The Svelte sample pack: a 10-pack of Medium pull-ups, rated “Heavy” absorbency.

The bigger story here isn’t one product. It’s that adults managing leakage have long had to choose between protection and feeling like themselves. Anieto says she spent nearly two years researching products and talking to users, and her argument that absorbency shouldn’t be the only measure of a good product is the right one. On comfort, fit and everyday protection, Svelte delivers.

Verdict: 4.5/5. It’s comfortable, it fits well even around a bigger stomach, it feels like real underwear rather than a nappy, and it caught a last-minute leak without any mess. Just know it’s designed for everyday bladder leaks rather than heavy or bowel incontinence.
