Perth, Aug 11: Everyone’s favourite airline to head to Europe has published some tips on how to get the best value while travelling amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, rolling out a set of flexibility measures aimed at giving customers greater confidence when booking, from the moment a ticket is purchased through to arrival at their destination.
From yesterday, Emirates customers flying to Dubai can change their travel dates as many times as needed, free of charge, across every fare type from Saver through Flex in Economy, and Special, Saver and Flex in Business Class. Economy Flex Plus, Premium Economy, Business Flex Plus and First Class fares remain fully flexible as they already were.
Refund fees have also been substantially reduced on flights to Dubai, dropping to US$50 on Saver fares and US$25 on Flex fares in Economy. In Business Class, refund fees now sit at US$50 on Special and Saver fares and US$25 on Flex fares. No-show fees remain unchanged. Combined with the unlimited free date changes, the airline says the move gives customers room to adjust or step away from a booking with minimal penalty, whatever their circumstances.
For those flying anywhere else on the Emirates network, one free date change now applies to tickets booked from 2 April 2026, including journeys connecting through Dubai. Customers can also hold a fare for 24 hours at no charge while they finalise their plans, giving some breathing room before committing to a booking.
The airline has also introduced Comprehensive Travel Cover, an industry-first insurance product covering a range of scenarios, including conflict cover with reimbursement of medical expenses up to US$25,000 and a free trip extension of up to 30 days. Notably, the cover is not restricted by government travel advisories, a detail that will matter to travellers navigating a region where advisories are shifting frequently.
The cover also includes trip cancellation, baggage delay and loss, alongside unlimited worldwide medical expenses and emergency evacuation. It is available at an accessible premium across 27 countries, and can be purchased either at the time of booking on emirates.com or added to an existing booking through Manage Booking.
Where flights are disrupted, Emirates said it would support affected customers with accommodation directly. Where onward connections on other airlines are affected, or Emirates services are unavailable, customers will be rebooked to their destination at no additional cost, including in cases where cancellations are caused by airspace disruptions — a scenario that has become more common as regional conflict continues to affect flight paths.
Emirates Skywards members also stand to benefit from a set of temporary perks running until 31 August 2026. Members will need 20 per cent fewer Tier Miles to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum status, and will earn 20 per cent bonus Tier Miles on both Emirates and flydubai flights during this period.
There are also improved savings for members using Cash+Miles, with a special rate of 2,000 Miles equal to US$30, instead of the usual US$15, when using Miles towards Emirates or flydubai flights, excess baggage, lounge access and seat selection.
Together, the measures point to an airline trying to reassure travellers that flexibility and financial protection will be built into their booking, rather than something they have to negotiate for after the fact, at a time when conflict in the region continues to weigh on travel confidence.
