eBay Posts Strong Q2, Raises Outlook

Perth, Aug 6: eBay reported strong second-quarter 2026 results, with revenue climbing 15% to $3.1 billion and gross merchandise volume rising to $22.4 billion, prompting the company to raise its full-year guidance.
The quarter’s standout move was the completion of eBay’s acquisition of Depop, the Gen Z-favoured consumer-to-consumer fashion marketplace, which closed on July 30 for $1.4 billion in cash. The deal strengthens eBay’s position in circular fashion and resale, a category the company has been steadily building around.
eBay Live, the company’s livestream shopping format, posted another record quarter, with GMV growing roughly eightfold year-over-year across its seven markets. The platform leaned into major cultural moments like the World Cup to drive engagement, connecting fans with curated collectibles and memorabilia.
The collectibles category delivered some of the quarter’s most eye-catching results. Goldin, an eBay company, sold a solo Michael Jordan card for $4.3 million and Wayne Gretzky’s Stanley Cup-winning jersey for $2.8 million — the highest price ever paid for a hockey jersey. eBay’s AI-powered card scanning tool also crossed 80 million cumulative scans, as collectors increasingly used it to identify cards and check pricing.
On the fashion and luxury side, eBay expanded its Authenticity Guarantee program to more than 100 brands across the U.S. and U.K., and integrated Enquirus, a global database for registered luxury watches, to boost buyer confidence in its resale offerings. The company also returned to the Met Gala for a fourth consecutive year, with designers sourcing pre-loved pieces for stars including SZA, Wisdom Kaye, and Paloma Elsesser.
Financially, eBay posted GAAP net income of $552 million, or $1.21 per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of $727 million, or $1.60 per diluted share. Operating margins came in at 21.6% on a GAAP basis and 28.5% on a non-GAAP basis. The company returned $448 million to shareholders during the quarter, including $310 million in share buybacks and $138 million in dividends.
Looking ahead, eBay guided for third-quarter revenue of $3.07 to $3.12 billion and GMV of $22.0 to $22.4 billion, alongside a declared quarterly dividend of $0.31 per share, payable September 11 to shareholders of record as of August 28.
