Perth, May 25: Malaysia Aviation Group has marked a major fleet milestone with the arrival of Malaysia Airlines’ latest Boeing 737-8 aircraft, while also reporting further progress in its sustainability and fleet modernisation efforts.
The aircraft, bearing registration number 9M-MVR, arrived at KL International Airport on May 24, becoming the 200th Boeing aircraft delivered to Malaysia Airlines since 1972.
It is the fourth Boeing 737-8 delivered to the airline this year and forms part of MAG’s broader fleet renewal programme, which includes next-generation aircraft aimed at improving fuel efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort.
The aircraft departed Boeing’s Seattle Delivery Centre on May 21 and travelled to Malaysia via Honolulu and Guam before landing at KLIA after a total flight time of 19 hours and 44 minutes.
To date, MAG has taken delivery of 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft from its total order of 55 Boeing narrowbody aircraft, comprising 43 Boeing 737-8s and 12 Boeing 737-10s. Deliveries are scheduled through to 2030.
The milestone comes as MAG released its 2025 Sustainability Report, which highlighted a reduction of 103,424 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions through fuel efficiency initiatives, resulting in total fuel savings of 30,036 tonnes across its operations.
MAG said its fleet modernisation programme, including the induction of additional A330neo and Boeing 737-8 aircraft, supports improved fuel performance, lower emissions intensity and an enhanced passenger experience.
The Group also increased the proportion of aircraft compliant with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Chapter 14 noise standards from 8.6 per cent in 2023 to 15.6 per cent in 2025.
As part of its decarbonisation efforts, MAG completed its first pilot Sustainable Aviation Fuel uplift on the Kuala Lumpur-London route in partnership with PETRONAS. The Group also uplifted two per cent SAF for flights departing from the United Kingdom and Europe.
Beyond environmental initiatives, MAG said it continued to strengthen workforce diversity and talent development, with women making up 51 per cent of more than 1,000 new hires in 2025 and young talent accounting for 67 per cent.
MAG also expanded outreach programmes encouraging greater female participation in aviation and engineering careers, reaching close to 500 students nationwide.
