Smartraveller has urged Australians currently in Saudi Arabia who wish to leave to make plans to do so while commercial flight options remain available, noting flight schedules may change at short notice.
The advisory level for Saudi Arabia was raised to “reconsider your need to travel” on 1 March 2026.
Ahead of the Hajj 2026 season, the government continues to advise Australians to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia, warning that those who have secured Hajj permits and decide to travel should understand the risks of the volatile security environment.
Travellers in Saudi Arabia have been urged to prioritise safety, monitor events, follow local advice, and shelter in place during any strikes.

The advisory recommends avoiding government, military or energy infrastructure including oil production facilities, as well as Israeli and US diplomatic missions and other locations associated with Israeli, Jewish or US interests.
If warned of an imminent attack, travellers are advised to move to an enclosed shelter, ideally underground or close to ground level, or seek an inner room without windows if shelter is unavailable.
Terrorism remains a threat in Saudi Arabia, with the advisory noting attacks could happen at any time or anywhere, and recommending travellers maintain a high level of security awareness and avoid venues drawing crowds or foreigners where possible.
Australians can follow the Saudi Ministry of Interior’s social media accounts for Hajj updates and visit Smartraveller for the latest advisory information.
