Perth–Nairobi Route Launch

Perth, March 31: South African Airways has launched Nairobi as a through-fare destination from Perth, giving travellers a single-ticket option to East Africa via Johannesburg.
The new offering combines SAA’s nonstop Perth-to-Johannesburg service with onward connectivity to Nairobi in partnership with Kenya Airways, providing a more seamless booking and servicing experience through the GDS.
SAA said the move offers a simplified and competitive option for travellers heading to Nairobi, while strengthening its connectivity between Australia and key destinations across Africa.
At the same time, the airline said it is monitoring developments in the Middle East and any potential impact on global jet fuel supply and pricing.
While the region remains a key aviation hub, SAA said it does not expect any immediate disruption to fuel availability, citing South Africa’s diverse and resilient fuel supply network.
However, the airline confirmed that recent increases in Jet A1 fuel costs have taken effect and, due to the scale of the rise, airfare adjustments were implemented from March 12, 2026. Updated fares are now reflected across all booking channels.
SAA said the pricing changes are necessary to maintain sustainable operations while continuing to deliver safe and reliable service.
The airline also urged the trade to issue fares on the same day where possible, rather than holding bookings for extended periods, even if the ticketing time limit permits.
SAA said prompt ticketing can help avoid unexpected fare increases or changes during a period of ongoing uncertainty and price volatility.
Meanwhile, SAA also highlighted its participation in South African Tourism’s “Mega Lekker” mega famil, which saw 120 travel agents from Australia and New Zealand travel across South Africa in February.
The initiative was designed to showcase the country’s diverse landscapes, vibrant cities and hospitality, while giving agents firsthand experience to better sell South Africa to clients in the ANZ market.
SAA thanked South African Tourism and its industry partners for supporting the campaign, saying the collaboration helped reinforce South Africa’s appeal across the region.
