Thailand FastTracks Investment

Perth, March 22: Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) has announced a series of measures aimed at accelerating real investment, while approving two major Thai Airways projects worth a combined 7.143 billion baht (about US$217.11 million).
The resolutions were made at a recent BOI meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas.
The board said it is pushing ahead with its “Thailand FastPass” programme, which is designed to speed up approvals for large-scale projects while addressing key investor concerns including electricity supply, clean energy access and land availability.
BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said the strong flow of investment into sectors such as digital, electronics, automotive and renewable energy reflects Thailand’s position as a preferred regional investment destination.
“To sustain this growth and competitive edge, we are accelerating investment through Thailand FastPass and directly removing critical investor barriers: electricity, clean energy, and land,” he said.
“This strategy strengthens Thailand’s role as a leading investment hub.”
The board said all 16 initial FastPass projects, worth more than 170 billion baht (around US$5.24 billion), have already received investment promotion approval. Of those, seven have applied for promotion certificates and four have obtained permits from relevant partner agencies.
The BOI is also monitoring 78 large projects approved between 2023 and 2025, with a total value of 480 billion baht (about US$14.78 billion). According to the agency, many of these projects have already started investing or are expected to begin soon. Another 13 projects, worth around 270 billion baht (US$8.31 billion), are still facing challenges such as electricity access, land issues and permits. If those obstacles are resolved, they could unlock an additional 350 billion baht (US$10.78 billion) in real investment by 2027.
To tackle electricity-related concerns, the BOI said it is working with the Energy Regulatory Commission to accelerate power infrastructure readiness for high-tech industries and data centres. Planned measures include creating a “Power Map” to identify suitable development zones and requiring data centre projects to confirm electricity supply before submitting BOI applications.
On land issues, the board said it is reviewing city plans to expand industrial areas, preparing guidelines to speed up site development, and accelerating the process for converting public land for industrial estate use. It also backed a proposal for all regulations related to public land conversion to be revised and completed within one year.
The BOI added that it will introduce quarterly monitoring of all promoted projects to help resolve implementation issues more quickly.
Among the key approvals, the board granted promotion to two air transportation projects by Thai Airways Public Company Limited for the leasing of eight new aircraft to expand international air transport services.
“By prioritising essential infrastructure and refining our support mechanisms, we are building a more resilient and attractive environment for sustained investment and economic prosperity in Thailand,” Narit said.
