Perth, March 10: Italian biomaterials company Vegea has marked its 10th anniversary by expanding production of GrapeSkin, its grape-based material made from wine-making by-products.
The company said the production expansion, completed in 2026, is intended to improve availability, speed up access and support smoother deliveries as demand grows.
Vegea said GrapeSkin will retain the same quality, hand-feel and bio-based composition that have defined the material since its early development.
Developed by chemist Francesco Merlino in 2016, GrapeSkin is made using grape skins, seeds and stalks left over from the wine-making process, combined with bio-based components to create a lower-impact material alternative.
Over the past decade, the material has been used across a range of creative industries including fashion and interior design, as Vegea continues to position it within the circular economy and sustainable materials space.
GrapeSkin has also gained international attention through its use in collections and projects linked to brands including Calvin Klein, Diadora and Bentley.
“Ten years on, we have transformed our experience into increased capacity and greater reach. We aim for more people to discover and use a material born from the vineyard.”
