Perth, March 1: Malaysia Airlines has suspended all flights to and from Doha (DOH), Jeddah (JED) and Madinah (MED) until March 4, 2026, following continued airspace closures across parts of the Middle East amid escalating regional security developments.
The suspension extends earlier cancellations implemented from Feb 28 to March 1.
Oceania and Southeast Asian Muslims intending to travel to Mecca to perform Umrah and undertake religious visits during the holy month of Ramadan are being urged to note that services to key Saudi gateways remain suspended until at least March 4.
Ramadan often sees a significant surge in pilgrims travelling to Mecca and Madinah to perform Umrah and to break fast in the holy cities. The disruption is expected to affect travellers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Australia who had planned religious journeys during this peak spiritual period.
Malaysia Airlines confirmed that all other flights, including those to and from London (LHR) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), remain on schedule at this time. These services are operating on alternative routings, well clear of the affected conflict zone.
Affected passengers are being notified and assisted with alternative travel arrangements where required. Flights to the affected destinations will remain suspended pending further assessment of the security situation.
Passengers have been advised to update their contact details via “My Booking” for timely updates. Assistance is also available through Live Chat support on the airline’s website or via the Malaysia Airlines Global Contact Centre at 1 300 88 3000 (within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia).
Malaysia Airlines said it continues to closely monitor developments and will take all necessary measures to ensure safe and reliable operations. “The safety of passengers and crew remains our highest priority.”
The suspension comes amid broader regional disruptions, with multiple international carriers adjusting routes, cancelling services or suspending flights as Middle East airspace closures continue. Further changes remain possible as the security situation evolves.
