SmartWings Blinds Review

By June Ramli

Perth, Feb 16: As a new homeowner in Perth, my apartment already had most of the essentials — but with the brutal summer heat, blinds felt like the final piece that would make the space both more comfortable and more “complete”.
When I received an email offering a SmartWings blind for review, it genuinely came at the perfect time. I hadn’t bought blinds in years because I’d been living in rentals where window coverings were already installed. This was my first time choosing and ordering blinds from a website sight unseen and I’ll be honest, it was more intimidating than I expected.

Measuring: the most daunting part but doable

The first hurdle was measuring the window. As a total novice, I procrastinated for a couple of days because I was convinced I’d get it wrong and end up with an expensive mistake.
What helped was SmartWings’ website instructions — they were clear and step-by-step, which made the process far less overwhelming. I started with a measuring tape, then ended up using a ruler to measure the window panels more precisely.
Thankfully, the measurements worked out perfectly. When the blinds arrived and I held them up to the window, the fit was spot on and that was genuinely a relief.

Colour choice: Biscuit was a win

Next came choosing the colour. I went with Biscuit, because my room has a warm, wooden theme and I wanted something that blended in rather than stood out. In person, Biscuit matched the overall aesthetic of my only room beautifully — soft, neutral, and warm.

Delivery and unboxing

When the blind arrived, it was well packaged and easy to carry into the room. I expected it to feel bulky or heavy, but it was surprisingly lightweight and I could carry it upstairs from the ground floor with ease.
Inside the box were simple instructions, a remote control with the batteries included, and a long cable. The handyman later explained the cable is used to charge the blinds when it runs out of power.

Installation: I hired a handyman

Getting the blinds installed by a handyman is highly recomended unless you know how to DIY.

I didn’t attempt installation myself — I’m not confident drilling into walls or fitting brackets correctly so I hired a handyman which I had initially found via Airtasker.
The entire installation cost me AUD $70 and the time taken to install the blinds was within an hour as the handyman had to go down twice to get the right tools to finish up the job.
The process was straightforward and quick, and once installed, the blinds instantly made the room feel more polished and better protected from the sun.

My overall experience summed up

From browsing the SmartWings website to receiving the package and getting it installed, the entire process was smoother than I expected. The only real “stress point” was measuring — but with the guidance on the SmartWings website, it ended up being far less scary than it felt at the start.
If you’re a homeowner or a renter who needs blinds for their homes or apartments, SmartWings is worth considering especially if you’re after a clean, minimalist finish that blends well with your interior design.

Disclaimer: SmartWings provided the blinds to me for free for review purposes. I paid for the installation myself (AUD $70).
