Perth, Feb 9: With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Australians are once again searching for the perfect way to celebrate love.
Candlelit dinners, weekend getaways and spa treatments may be classic choices — but new research suggests the most meaningful connections might actually be forged at home, controller in hand.
Fresh data from Logitech G, conducted in partnership with independent research firm Antenna Insights, reveals that couples who play video games together report significantly higher relationship satisfaction than those who don’t.
Surveying more than 1,500 Australians aged between 18 and 45, the study found that couples who game together at least once a week enjoy double the net relationship satisfaction (+47.3) compared to couples who rarely or never game together (+24.0).
Gaming together is already part of many Australian relationships.
Around 44 per cent of respondents said they play video games with their partner either occasionally or regularly, while 22 per cent play rarely and 34 per cent never do.
The benefits go beyond happiness scores. Couples who game together weekly spend nearly 17 hours of quality time together each week — roughly 3.8 hours more than couples who only play occasionally.
Whether it’s solving challenges as a team or simply sharing space while playing solo games side by side, gaming appears to create meaningful opportunities for connection.

Logitech G’s latest research shows that for many Australian couples, the secret to a stronger connection this Valentine’s Day is actually found at the console,” said Daniel Hall, Senior Category Manager at Logitech G ANZ.
“We’re seeing gaming evolve beyond a solo hobby. It’s becoming a powerful way for couples to communicate, collaborate and genuinely enjoy quality time together.”
When asked why they enjoy gaming with their partner, respondents cited teamwork (52%), relaxation and stress relief (47%), and feeling closer as a couple (46%) as the top reasons. Others said gaming makes relationships more playful (36%) and offers an easy way to spend quality time together at home (39%).
Local gaming duo Elmza and Jags — Emma Corrigan and Jaeger Jags Vallejera — say co-op games such as Overcooked, Mario Party and Animal Crossing have strengthened both their communication and their bond.
“Our teamwork and communication have improved massively through playing games together — and it’s really fun,” Corrigan said.
“It gives us time to hang out, decompress and relax together.”
She added that having a shared hobby has brought a sense of playfulness and adventure into their relationship.
“The games we love playing reflect what we love about each other and our relationship. They remind us how important fun and curiosity are.”
