Perth, Feb 5: Sydney Airport has appointed global architecture practice Grimshaw and international engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald as lead consultants for its T2–T3 terminal link project, part of the airport’s $6 billion capital works program.
The project will expand terminal capacity, improve airline efficiency, and deliver a more seamless passenger journey, including the introduction of up to 12 new swing gates to support both domestic and international operations.
The appointments follow a global tender process to establish a panel of architectural and engineering firms to support Sydney Airport’s infrastructure pipeline over the next five years.

Sydney Airport said the new procurement framework represents a shift from project-by-project contracting to a long-term framework partnership model, intended to improve delivery efficiency, consistency and coordination across major infrastructure projects.
Grimshaw will lead architectural design for the T2–T3 terminal link, drawing on its experience across major aviation projects including London Heathrow, Istanbul Airport, Lima, JFK and Shenzhen.
Mott MacDonald will lead engineering services for the project, covering terminal design, building services, and civil and structural engineering, supported by its Australian operations.

Sydney Airport said the T2–T3 terminal link project is a central element of its preliminary draft Master Plan 2045, which forecasts passenger growth to 72 million annually by 2045.
The initial phase of the project will include early design development, site surveys and risk identification to support upcoming planning and approval processes.
Sydney Airport said the move to long-term design partnerships is expected to enable faster decision-making, stronger integration across disciplines and a more consistent approach across its infrastructure portfolio.
