Sydney, July 21: I recently had the opportunity to review the Viaim OpenNote AI Recorder, and I must say, it’s a very impressive piece of tech.
Designed for professionals on the go—like journalists, students, and remote workers—it’s packed with features that make life easier.
Out of the box, the first thing I noticed was its sleek, futuristic design.
It looks great and feels lightweight in the hand.
The earbuds are open-ear and extremely comfortable to wear, even for long periods.
Pairing the device with my phone was quick and easy.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to connect to my laptop, which was a slight disappointment.
That said, I typically do most of my recordings on my phone, so it didn’t slow me down too much.
One of the standout features is the real-time transcription.
Whether you’re in an interview, a meeting, or even on a phone call, the device transcribes everything instantly. It’s perfect for capturing key points without having to jot down messy notes.
The device also supports translation in 16 languages—English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Dutch, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and yes, Malay.
The Malay transcription and translation are actually pretty good—I should know, eh?
This feature alone makes it a great tool for cross-border collaboration, travel, or working with diverse teams. It can really help you break down language barriers and keep communication smooth.
The AI assistant doesn’t just transcribe—it goes one step further and provides summaries and to-do lists based on what was recorded.
This feature is a game-changer for busy professionals who need fast follow-up and clear next steps after a meeting.
Another thing I appreciated is how the device handles privacy.
All recordings are encrypted end-to-end and stored securely in the cloud.
You can manage them easily—download, share, or delete as needed—with full control.
Battery life is excellent.
You get up to 53 hours of playback, and even a 10-minute charge gives you three hours of use.
This makes it perfect for long workdays, commutes, or back-to-back interviews.
The sound quality is also worth mentioning.
With studio-level audio, 18 preset EQ modes, and great noise control, it’s ideal for playback and even casual listening.
Whether I was listening back to an interview or just tuning into Spotify, the sound was crisp and clear.
While I loved most things about this device, the one downside for me was the inability to pair it with my laptop.
If Viaim can improve cross-device compatibility, it would make the product even stronger.
The Viaim OpenNote comes with 600 minutes of free transcription per month via the app, which is generous for light to moderate users.
However, once you hit that limit, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid subscription to continue using the transcription feature.
The device won’t allow any more transcriptions until your quota resets the following month—so if you rely on it heavily, it’s worth budgeting for a plan.
Overall, the Viaim OpenNote AI Recorder is a fantastic tool for anyone who works with audio, interviews, or meetings.
It makes capturing, organising, and securing your work effortless.
