Sydney, June 26: Tucked away just off Edinburgh Road in Marrickville, Metro Brew’in is the kind of place you want to keep to yourself—but can’t help telling everyone about.
Since opening in late September 2024, this French-inspired eatery has become a local favourite for its gourmet baguettes, signature steak frites, and cool, music-driven atmosphere.
Run by sisters Veronique Habis (front-of-house) and Mora Habis (head chef), Metro Brew’in was born from their passion for good food, great music, and French culinary roots.
“We wanted to create a space where people could relax, hang out, and enjoy something different,” says Veronique.
The menu is built around bold, comforting flavours.
The steak frites—served with crisp fries and their signature “ultracott” sauce—is a best-seller for good reason. Also high on the must-try list is the Hitmaker Steak Baguette — a flavour-packed gourmet sandwich that pairs tender, juicy steak with a fresh baguette and their house-made sauce. It’s rich, satisfying, and bursting with flavour.

What sets Metro Brew’in apart is not just the food, but the care they take in preparing it.
“All our meat is 100% certified Halal,” Veronique explains.
“We use separate utensils, grills, and workstations for different proteins, including pork and beef, to avoid any cross-contamination.”
That level of attention reflects their commitment to inclusivity and making every guest feel welcome.
The vibe last Saturday night was energetic and lively — the restaurant was packed, the music was on point, and the atmosphere was buzzing.
Despite being slightly hidden down a driveway, Veronique says the location is part of the charm.
“We wanted it to be a destination – a place people discover and keep coming back to. That’s why we call it a hidden gem.”

Don’t leave without trying dessert as Mora makes every sweet treat by hand and I had the house-made brownie, which was rich, indulgent, and everything a brownie should be.
It paired beautifully with their pistachio drink, which was creamy, subtle, and refreshingly different.
The dessert selection is a must-try and speaks to the same level of care they put into the rest of the menu.
Service was outstanding — as Veronique was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive, making sure every table was looked after.
Her passion for the business is evident in the way she interacts with customers and runs the floor.

The name Metro Brew’in is a nod to R&B/hip-hop producer Metro Boomin, reflecting the sisters’ love for music. “We’re all about good food, good music, and good hangouts,” Veronique says.
That passion is woven into everything — from the mural-covered walls to the laid-back vibe.
Parking is free and easy, with dedicated spots nearby and plenty of options within walking distance.

The venue is also available for private events, including birthdays and christenings.
With its French flair, thoughtful service, handmade desserts, and welcoming atmosphere, Metro Brew’in isn’t just a place to eat — it’s a spot to savour.
Disclaimer: I dined as a guest of the restaurant in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.All meat served at Metro Brew’in is 100% Halal and prepared using separate utensils and dedicated cooking stations to ensure no cross-contamination.
