Sydney, April 30: Opposition Leader Peter Dutton showed a lighter side of himself during an appearance on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick breakfast show, where he discussed everything from housing affordability and crime to an unexpected highlight — his skincare routine.
With only days left in the federal election campaign, Dutton made a pitch to Victorian voters, outlining a series of proposals including tax-deductible interest on the first $650,000 of a mortgage for first-home buyers, a $750 million national crime crackdown targeting bikie gangs and drug networks, and a pledge to reduce migration in a bid to ease the housing crisis.
But the most surprising moment came when co-host Brendan Fevola threw Dutton a curveball: “I look at you every time you’re on TV… you’ve got great skin! Like, what moisturiser are you using?”
Dutton laughed, admitting it was a standout moment of the campaign: “No one has ever said that to me before.” He then revealed the secret behind his glow: “I put some basic moisturiser on in the morning. That’s the extent of my beauty regime.”
The interview also touched on Dutton’s rapport with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. While the two frequently go head-to-head in parliament, Dutton said they can have an “easy” conversation and do collaborate on key national security issues. When asked if they were “mates,” Dutton replied, “Yeah, we can have a chat.”
He also shared his top tip for hosting a successful election party — “responsible alcohol” and, jokingly, “not watching the ABC.”
