British Airways is set to acquire Boeing’s MRO hangar facility at Gatwick, securing jobs and expanding its engineering presence at the airport. The airline will establish British Airways Engineering Gatwick (BAEG), integrating it with its existing engineering operations. Boeing employees at the site are expected to transfer to BAEG in Q2 following consultation. The acquisition will enhance BA’s maintenance capabilities, reducing the need to ferry aircraft elsewhere and supporting sustainability efforts. The deal remains subject to standard conditions.

ACCC Backs Virgin-Qatar Deal

The ACCC has proposed granting authorisation for Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways to form an integrated alliance for five years. The partnership would introduce 28 new weekly return flights between Doha and major Australian cities using Qatar Airways’ aircraft and crew under a wet lease arrangement. The ACCC sees public benefits, including more flight options and improved connectivity, with minimal public detriment. However, some concerns have been raised about potential impacts on Australian aviation workforce laws. The ACCC is seeking feedback on the draft determination before making a final decision.

Korean Air Adds Kobe

Korean Air will launch twice-daily flights between Seoul Incheon and Kobe starting April 18, becoming the first Korean flag carrier to serve this route. The flights, approximately two hours long, will operate in the morning and afternoon. Kobe, a key city in Japan’s Kansai region, offers easy access to Osaka, Kyoto, and other nearby destinations. The new route enhances Korean Air’s network as travel demand to Japan grows.
