Jordan, Jan 31: Royal Jordanian said Friday it had resumed flights from Amman to Damascus, following a 13-year halt during Syria’s civil war.
After the first flight on Friday from the Jordanian capital, the flag carrier said it would operate four flights a week to begin with.
“The company plans to increase flights to one a day next April,” Royal Jordanian CEO Samer Al-Majali said, according to a statement.
International flights from Damascus airport resumed on January 7, nearly a month after the ouster of president Bashar al-Assad by an Islamist-led alliance.
For more than a decade, few international carriers operated flights in and out of Syria during a civil war that began with a crackdown by Assad on pro-democracy protests.
Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Emirates have all resumed flights to the Syrian capital.
